Police: Newport man fatally shot during argument, suspect jailed

NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) — Police say one person was fatally shot and a suspect has been arrested on a murder charge in the coastal town of Newport.

Newport police say officers were called to a home Wednesday for a man who had been shot.

Police say officers found 59-year-old Tony Larsen dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers arrested 65-year-old Steven DeMauro, who lived at the residence and had remained at the scene. Police say investigation shows DeMauro shot Larsen during an argument.

Police say DeMauro was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail and held without bail on investigation of murder. It wasn’t immediately known if he has a lawyer.

A major crimes team is investigating.

  1. They were fortunate that there was loaded gun handy to keep them safe of course. Things always seem to go so much better when there are plenty of guns and ammo around. I mean gosh think what might have happened if they didn’t have a gun available. Scary thought for regressives scared of everything !

    1. No gun…baseball bat, axe, or as we saw in UK today, knives will actually kill a person dead! Who’da thunk Fester??? Shoot, you don’t even have to have a weapon….you see that Chicago cop body slam that drunk guy into the curb head first on tonights news?? One stomp to the back of his neck while lying unconscious with his head on the curb like that and the guy would be dead. Best add boots to that list of deadly weapons.
      How much you want to bet alcohol was a factor??
