Deputies make arrest in Junction City wedding thefts
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Authorities have arrested a man accused of stealing wedding gifts from couples in Junction City.
The Register-Guard reports Kord and Janell Evenson were victimized last week. Communicating discreetly with guests, Janell Evenson determined that about $2,500 in checks, cash and gift cards had been stolen.
Lane County sheriff’s Sgt. Carrie Carver says two other Junction City weddings were hit by a thief Saturday, and a fourth was targeted July 15.
Janell Evenson’s mother photographed many of her daughter’s wedding guests, and one of the photos captured an unfamiliar face – that of a man carrying a bag near the card table.
She circulated the photo on Facebook, leading to arrest of 42-year-old Brian Starr. The Eugene man faces charges of theft, methamphetamine possession and felon in possession of a weapon.
