Pedestrian struck at Portland street race; driver arrested

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police arrested a 22-year-old driver accused of striking a pedestrian while street racing.

Police spokesman Sgt. Chris Burley says investigators determined the injured man was hit late Sunday while standing in a parking lot. He had been watching a black Infiniti G35 vehicle perform dangerous driving maneuvers when the collision occurred.

The injured man was taken to a Vancouver, Washington, hospital by private vehicle and is expected to survive.

Burley says Vladyslav Momotok was arrested Monday on charges of reckless driving and failure to perform the duties of a driver. The Infiniti G35 has been seized as evidence. Burley says it has damage consistent with striking a pedestrian.

Illegal racing has caused several fatal crashes in Portland in recent years. Police on Sunday issued eight citations and six warnings to people believed to be involved in street racing events in north and northeast Portland.
