LOS ANGELES (KTVZ) – A Central Oregon Strike Team of firefighters arrived Thursday in Southern California and began preparations for deployment to help protect homes, businesses and communities from this week’s deadly, devastating wildfires.

“Once inspections are complete, units will receive their assignment,” Redmond Fire & Rescue reported.

Redmond was one of several Central Oregon fire agencies called up by the Oregon State Fire Marshal for deployment to help fight the Palisades Fire and other recent blazes that have erupted in Santa Ana winds topping hurricane force in many locations.

The strike team will be on assignment for about two weeks, one of 15 structural-protection strike teams from Oregon, along with five wildland firefighting teams sent by the Oregon Department of Forestry.
