Storms prompt closure of Sugar Creek Campground

KTVZ

Recent snowstorms have forced the closure of Sugar Creek campground, located on the southeast quarter of Ochoco National Forest, on Forest Road 58 near Paulina.

The campground is typically kept open late in the year to accommodate late season elk hunters on the Paulina Ranger District.

Last week’s snow storms knocked down multiple trees in and around the campground making it unsafe for public use. The campground is expected to reopen in May next year.

Other campgrounds in the area are available, but access depends on the weather. The access roads are not regularly cleared.

To find other camping options, check out the forest recreation conditions report: http://www.fs.usda.gov/recmain/ochoco/recreation
