C.O. Drug Agents Arrest Couple in Madras
Drug agents said they stopped a car on the outskirts of Madras Wednesday and arrested the man and woman inside, then raided the driver?s mobile home and found more methamphetamine and other items.
Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team detectives, assisted by Jefferson County sheriff?s deputies, stopped Ignacio Joel Ortiz-Ramos and Toni Sophia Smith, both 27 and of Madras, in a car at the corner of Dogwood and Columbia around 3 p.m. Wednesday, said Lt. Ken Mannix.
Ortiz-Ramos was the subject of a lengthy investigation by CODE Team detectives for ?trafficking of large quantities of methamphetamine in the Central Oregon region,? Mannix said in a news release.
Detectives found about an ounce of meth on Ortiz Ramos at the time of his arrest. Smith was taken into custody on a conspiracy charge.
About 45 minutes later, detectives executed a search warrant at Ortiz-Ramos? mobile home in the Tops Trailer Park at 23 Depot Road, Mannix said.
During a search of the home, detectives found another two ounces of meth, scales, packaging material, a gun and other evidence of drug sales and distribution, the lieutenant said.
Ortiz-Ramos and Smith were lodged at the Jefferson County Jail on drug charges. Ortiz-Ramos also was held for federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents as a suspected illegal immigrant, a jail officer said.
