Fugitive Caught, Jailed After SE Bend Chase

A wanted felon, on the run for weeks since allegedly pulling a gun on his girlfriend and trying to run her and their daughter over, was caught Thursday after a car and foot chase in southeast Bend, police said.

Just after noon, officers spotted a blue Ford pickup being driven by Danial Chase Kennedy, 25, of Bend near the intersection of SE Parrell and Chase roads, said Lt. Brian Kindel.

The officers knew that he?s wanted on a felony parole violation warrant, and also in connection with an Aug. 3 altercation involving his girlfriend and 8-year-old daughter, an incident involving a threatened use of a gun, Kindel said. Police said at the time he allegedly tried to run down the woman and girl with his car.

Kindel said police flipped on their emergency lights to pull Kennedy over, but he took off. Kennedy, with a female passenger in the pickup, refused to stop. He headed east on Chase Road just over a block, then turned north, driving a couple of blocks to Sonata Way, Kindel said.

At that point, Kennedy?s pickup came to a skidding stop at a T intersection, narrowly missing a parked RV, at which point he jumped out and ran, heading north through backyards and over fences, the lieutenant said.

Officers chased Kennedy on foot for about three blocks before they were able to apprehend him without injury, Kindel said, adding that he threw drugs from his pockets while attempting to flee. There were no injuries, and the only damage reported was a fence board broken by Kennedy, he said.

Kennedy was arrested and taken to the Deschutes County Jail, where he was held without bail on the parole violation felony warrant and numerous new charges, including first-degree robbery, misdemeanor elude (on foot), methamphetamine possession, felon in possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, reckless driving, three counts of reckless endangering, second-degree criminal trespass, third-degree criminal mischief, escape and disorderly conduct.
