Indian Ford Campground bridge closed to horses

KTVZ

Due to concerns for the safety of the public and horses, the Sisters Ranger District of the Deschutes National Forest is closing the bridge to the Indian Ford campground to equestrian travel.

Forest engineers recently reviewed the structure of the bridge and raised concerns about the safety of the bridge due to rot.

Particular concern was raised about the ability of the bridge to safely allow horses and riders to cross the bridge due to the potential of a horse placing weight on a small area where there is structural damage where the horse and rider could be injured if a hoof became stuck or went through the bridge.

The closure of the bridge will affect trail users of the Sisters Tie Trail (#4092) that passes through the Indian Ford campground.

All other non-motorized uses of the bridge such as foot and bike travel may continue at this time. Indian Ford campground is closed for the season.

Further decisions regarding the bridge will depend upon ongoing review and discussion and will be shared with the public in the future.
