COCC knows what it wants in new president
The search is underway for a new president at Central Oregon Community College. With the help of a consultant, the committee has narrowed down the profile of the person to replace Jim Middleton, who is retiring next year.
The search committee says the new president should be an articulate spokesperson who actively engages with civic, industry and other community leaders. Board chairman Bruce Abernethy said Monday the target date for receiving applications is Jan. 7 of next year.
Abernethy also said the board is looking for a candidate who can continue the trajectory the college is on right now.
“This is not somebody who needs to come in, sort of a turnaround specialist at this point,” Abernethy said, “Dr. Jim Middleton has done a fabulous job over his 10 years, and getting us to a place where we really are one of, if not the best community college in the state.”
The profile also suggests the new president should be an experienced leader in an environment of shared governance, open dialogue and honest collaboration.
Ultimately, the school hopes to be in discussion with a final candidate toward the end of March.
