Applicants sought for Soroptimist of Bend awards
Soroptimist International of Bend is taking applications for two $500 awards for young women between the ages of 14 and 17 living in the Bend and La Pine communities. Applications must be received by December 1, 2013.
The Violet Richardson Award is designed to recognize young women who are involved in activities that make the community and world a better place through volunteer efforts. In addition, the local winner’s application is submitted for a regional award. An award is not a scholarship as the funds can be used for any educational expense, for example, tuition, transportation or textbooks.
Application for the Violet Richardson Award is available online at www.sibend.org
Soroptimist International of Bend also is taking applications for educational awards for women who live in Deschutes County and are trying to improve their lives through additional education. Application deadline is December 15, 2013. Two awards, in the amount of $1,500 each are being offered.
The Woman of Opportunity Award is designed to provide additional financial assistance, but is not a scholarship. It may be used for any educational expense, for example: tuition, childcare, or transportation. Applicants must be entering into or enrolled in a college certificate/degree program, are head of a household and in need of financial help. The recipients of the local award are also eligible for regional and national awards.
