Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Oregon elected three new Advisory Board members in March: Richard Andrews, Director of Internal Controls at Les Schwab Tire Centers; Dawn Cofer, Branch Manager at Bank of the Cascades; and Tina Whittington, Vice President at Umpqua Bank.
Katy Sparks, the Marketing and PR Manager at Bend Memorial Clinic, is serving as the Chair of the Advisory Board in 2014, and said: “We are pleased to welcome Richard, Dawn, and Tina as we look forward to connecting more children with mentors this year. Big Brothers Big Sisters provides remarkable opportunities for kids and adult volunteers to develop meaningful relationships. As a Board, we work hard to make sure we are meeting the needs of children in our community.”
In the words of Richard Andrews, “All in all, the part of volunteering I get the most satisfaction out of is helping kids. I enjoy seeing children improve their skills and build their self-confidence. Kids with high self-esteem and confidence in themselves are more likely to be leaders and less likely to succumb to negative peer pressure.”
