USFS adds interactive maps with wildfire info

The Forest Service recognizes how important it is for families, communities, recreational users, and the public to be able to access information about the wildfires that are burning across many areas of Washington and Oregon.

For this reason, the Forest Service has developed a set of new mapping tools that will enhance our ability to share these vital updates.

These maps, originally designed to provide recreation information, have recently been modified to incorporate updates directly from the fire operations website, InciWeb. These maps show the fire boundaries for current fire as a recognizable icon—a flame image—representing current fire activity. This information provides real time updates regarding evacuation details and the direction fires are heading.

Evacuated families can easily look at any of our regional or forest recreation webpages to get updates on whether fire is approaching their homes. These maps are embedded on all forest websites located on the main recreation pages as well as a regional map for the Pacific Northwest Regional Office.
