Madras woman shoots reported burglary suspect
A Madras woman shot and wounded a reported burglary suspect late Monday night in her southeast Madras duplex, police confirmed Wednesday.
Police Chief Tanner Stanfill said officers responded shortly after 11 p.m. to 408 Southeast Seventh Street on a reported shooting, along with Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police.
A preliminary investigation indicates a burglary had occurred or was in progress, and a woman in her late 20s who police are not identifying at this time shot a 20-year-old Madras man once in the abdomen with a handgun, Stanfill said.
The man was taken by ambulance to St. Charles Madras and later transferred to St. Charles Bend. Stanfill could not report on his status and said they are still investigating whether the resident and suspect knew each other.
With an active investigation still underway, anyone with information was encouraged to call Madras Police Detective Mel Brown at 541-475-2424.
