Redmond PD: Burglar got in by doggy door, caught by K-9
A 27-year-old burglary suspect who a police dog found hiding in the attic of a northwest Redmond home early Saturday apparently got in through the home’s “doggy door,” officers said.
Officers responded around 6:25 a.m. to 534 Northwest Eighth Street on a report of a burglary in progress, officers said. The woman who called said she believed someone had entered her home and got into her finished attic. The woman took her family to a neighbor’s home and waited for police to arrive.
Officers cleared the home with the help of K-9 Officer Arco, they said. While doing so, Christopher Bradley Wilson was found in the attic and taken into custody without incident, they said.
Police investigating the break-in said they learned Wilson had gotten in through a “doggy door,” and earlier had unsuccessfully tried to break into a neighbor’s home through a kitchen window.
Wilson, who police said was a transient, was taken to the Deschutes County Jail and held without bail on a parole violation, also facing two counts of first-degree burglary and one count each of second-degree burglary and methamphetamine possession.
Police reminded residents to lock and secure their homes and buildings, including closing and locking doors and garage doors, pet doors, windows and any other access points.
“These preventative measures can discourage burglars and thieves from entering your residences/buildings and stealing your personal belongings and family heirlooms,” they wrote in a release posted to the Redmond PD Facebook page.
