Voter reminder: Tuesday last day to register for May primary

Secretary of State Jeanne Atkins urges Oregonians to register to vote or update their voter registration before midnight Tuesday Voters must be registered before midnight on Tuesday to participate in the May 17 th primary election.

“Oregonians have just a few hours left to ensure that they will be able to cast a ballot in this historic primary,” Atkins said Monday. “Every day, we hear from voters who are eager to make their voices heard this May. I hope they take the time to review their registration and make updates if necessary.”

If a voter needs to register to vote or wants to change their party affiliation for the May 17 th primary election, they have three options:

Online: Register by 11:59 PM on Tuesday, April 26 th at http://oregonvotes.gov/myvote In person: By close of business at a county elections office on Tuesday, April 26 th . Find your county election office at http://oregonvotes.gov/counties Mail: Your voter registration card must have an USPS postmark of April 26 th or earlier. Voter registration cards are available at post offices, DMVs, libraries, and county elections offices.

New registrations or updates cannot be made over the phone.

Voters will receive a ballot for the party with which they are registered. If a voter is not registered with a political party, and they don’t want to register with a political party, they will receive a nonpartisan ballot.

Non-affiliated voters can also request to vote the Independent Party ballot without changing their affiliation by contacting their county clerk by close of business on the April 26 th deadline. To check or update party registration, visit http://oregonvotes.gov/myvote.

Oregon’s County Clerks will begin mailing ballots on Wednesday, April 27 th . Oregonians with questions about their ballots or in need of a replacement ballot should contact their county election office. A complete list can be found at http://sos.oregon.gov/county.
