C.O. distracted driving crackdown results released

Targeted enforcement efforts were successful over the past weekend in Central Oregon, law enforcement officials said Tuesday as they released results of the crackdown.

Partners from most law enforcement agencies in Jefferson, Crook and Deschutes counties participated in the saturation patrol targeting behaviors that contribute to serious injury and fatal motor vehicle crashes.

Those behaviors are speed, occupant safety, lane violations, impaired driving and distracted driving (handheld electronic devices).

The saturation patrol was conducted on April 23 and 24 as April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

Agencies issued 317 traffic citations and issued 273 warnings.

The results from this event included the following statistics:
Speed citations: 172 warnings: 61
Seatbelt citations: 17 warnings: 18
Lane violation citations: 14 warnings: 38
Cell phone citations: 15 warnings: 10
DUII arrests: 9
Other traffic crime arrests: 5
Warrant arrests: 3
Minor in Possession: 2
Open container: 2
Misc citations :99 warnings: 146

This saturation patrol included Warm Springs Police, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Madras Police, Crook County Sheriff’s Office, Prineville Police, Black Butte Ranch Police, Sunriver Police, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Bend Police, Redmond Police and OSP.
