The city of Sisters said Friday it has been awarded a $150,000 Oregon Parks and Recreation Department Local Government Grant for Creekside Campground improvements and Whychus Creek riparian area enhancements.

The project will include replacing the restroom and shower facility, adding a dishwashing station and making improvements to the riparian areas adjacent to Whychus Creek.

The restroom portion of the project will be completed prior to the opening of the campground in 2017.

The Upper Deschutes Watershed Council will participate and leverage some additional funding for the riparian enhancements project. Those improvements will be ongoing in 2017.

There are a total of 18 projects receiving grants totaling $3,984,949. The grant awarded to the city of Sisters is $150,000 which is 50% of the project cost.
