Opportunity Foundation receives major donation
The Opportunity Foundation of Central Oregon is pleased to announce they recently received a generous donation from the Estate of Horace C. “Bud” and Kathryn J. “June” Nachand in the amount of $32,000.
The Nachands were longtime residents of Bend, having moved from Portland to this area in the early ’70s.
After serving in World War II, Bud married Kathryn “June” Mulligan in 1951, who had worked as a civilian Chief Clerk in supply for the Quartermaster Corps at the Portland Air Base during the war.
Bud went on to own and operate a contracting business where he was instrumental in the early planning and development of Sunriver, Oregon as well as other local projects. Bud passed away in 1998, with June passing in November 2015 at the age of 98.
Throughout their years in Central Oregon, the Nachands were quiet philanthropists, giving generously to several organizations over that time. Their niece, Colleen Dumont, summed up their gift by stating, “They would be very happy to know this money is going to such a wonderful organization, which helps so many people in this area.”
Seth Johnson, Executive Director for the Opportunity Foundation, along with staff and supported individuals, expressed his surprise and gratitude for this generous donation. “This came out of the blue. We are so thankful for the Nachands’ gift and all the things they did for this community. We are truly grateful.”
