A mountain biker from Boise was injured in a crash in the Phil’s Trail Complex west of Bend on Thursday, prompting a rescue effort and a flight to St. Charles Bend for treatment, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deschutes County 911 dispatchers got a call around 11:40 a.m. from Jeff Frechette, 46, reporting that his wife, Hailey Frechette, 45, had crashed her mountain bike at the intersection of Kents Trail and the KGB trail, deputies said. He said they could not proceed further on their own and needed medical assistance due to her injury.

Ten Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue volunteers and two sheriff’s deputies were deployed and assisted Bend Fire Department medics in accessing and rescuing the woman, deputies said.

SAR teams used a wheeled litter to bring Hailey part of the down the trail, at which point she was moved to an ATV/ambu-sled and brought the rest of the way to Skyliners Road.

Skyliners Road was shut for about 30 minutes at the Forest Road 46y10 junction so an Air Link helicopter could land and fly the woman to St. Charles Bend.

Deputies said Hailey Frechette had been wearing an appropriate bicycle helmet at the time of the crash. Unconfirmed police scanner reports indicated a leg injury occurred.
