Bend man arrested on DUII, reckless driving charges

A 29-year-old Bend man who allegedly failed to stop his speeding SUV for a police officer in northwest Bend Monday night was arrested about an hour later on drunk driving and other charges, officials said.

Around 8:35 p.m., an officer spotted a white 2007 Toyota Rav4 committing traffic violations, including speeding and failure to maintain a lane, in the area of Northwest Newport Avenue and Ninth Street, said Sgt. Mike Landolt.

The officer turned on his overhead lights for a traffic stop as the driver, later identified as Michael Street, drove to the area of Federal Street and Kingston Avenue, driving over a curb and part of a yard at the intersection.

The officer did not pursue the SUV after the driver tried to elude police and drove recklessly in a residential area, Landolt said.

Less than five minutes later, a citizen called dispatchers to report a white SUV speeding around a corner at Northwest Idaho Avenue and Wall Street, Landolt said. Officers believed it was possibly related to the earlier incident.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m., an officer found the same Rav4 up on a curb with a flat tire in the area of Northwest Sisemore Street and Delaware Avenue.

Street was with the parked SUV, Landolt said, and was found to have been the driver and impaired by alcohol.

Street was taken to the Deschutes County Jail and booked on charges of DUII, reckless driving and attempting to elude police. He was released around midnight to a responsible third party, a jail officer said.
