DCSO search volunteers find missing Eagle Crest woman
A search that lasted more than three hours ended successfully when searchers found a 70-year-old woman reported missing Thursday morning in the Eagle Crest Resort west of Redmond, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.
Dispatchers with 911 got a report around 9:40 a.m. that Nancy Shire was missing, having last been seen at her home in the resort around 7:30 a.m., said Lt. Bryan Husband, special services coordinator.
It was believed she had walked away from her home and was in the surrounding area, he said.
Several sheriff’s patrol units responded and began searching for Shire, while dispatch sent a mass notification alert to resort residents.
In addition, 14 Sheriff’s Search and Rescue volunteers responded and began door-to-door searches in the area around the woman’s home.
Husband said the search effort was assisted by several calls from nearby residents who reported potential sightings of Shire earlier in the day.
Around 1:10 p.m., Shire was located by a team of SAR volunteers, walking on a nearby street. She was confused, but otherwise in good health, and was taken back to her home and reunited with her caretaker.
