KTVZ

Bend Heroes Foundation has invited volunteers from the veterans community, Bend Police Department, Bend Fire Department, Oregon State Police and Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office to help install American flags in Bend on Monday, the 16th anniversary of 9/11.

“Our purpose is to honor those lost during the 9/11 terror attacks and their families and those Americans who are fighting terrorism in distant lands far from home and families,” the organization said in a statement.

Here’s the rest of the statement:

Because there are firefighters from the Bend Fire Department and possibly other local first responders fighting fires or lending support far away from their homes and families now, we want to let them and families know we appreciate their service and taking risks to protect the citizenry and private and public property from the rages of fires.

On 9/11, American flags should be flown at half staff from sunrise to sunset. President Trump and Oregon Governor Brown have issued Patriot Day proclamations which will be posted at Bend Heroes Memorial.

The White House has requested a national moment of silence beginning at 8:46 AM EDT.

The flag installations at Bend Heroes Memorial located at Brooks Park on Newport Avenue and on Veterans Memorial Bridge adjacent to the memorial begin promptly at 7:00 AM. Flags will be removed at 6:00 PM.
