Corvallis cracks down on illegal use of Central Park

KTVZ

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – A call to action from a former Corvallis city councilor has prompted officials to crack down on people using Central Park illegally.

Beginning Wednesday, the Corvallis Police Department will be focusing extra attention on patrolling in the park and officers assigned to other duties will be required to use unobligated time to assist in the effort.

The Gazette-Times reports (http://bit.ly/2fp3OfZ ) that Kent Daniels, now vice president of the Friends of Corvallis Parks and Recreation, called upon city leaders because he says “the park has become a large living area and day camp for the homeless and for street people.”

Lt. Cord Wood, who agrees there is a problem at the park, says the crackdown is scheduled to last 30 days, but the department can continue the effort, if the problem persists.
