(Update: Suspect in incident turns self in)

A 54-year-old Portland man faces charges of impersonating a police officer, accused of pulling over a motorist on his motorcycle on Interstate 5 north of Salem Thursday night.

John Olsen contacted Oregon State Police and turned himself in Friday evening, OSP Capt. Tim Fox said. Olsen was cited and released on charges of criminal impersonation of a public servant and disorderly conduct.

Fox said OSPs want to thank the public and the media for their help in the matter.

Fox told the Statesman Journal that the man driving a black and white Harley-Davidson-type motorcycle with blue lights pulled over a car at about 9:45 p.m. Thursday.

They said the man stopped the motorist for pulling out in front of his motorcycle but didn’t ask for a driver’s license or registration. He sped off when the motorist questioned his authenticity.
