Over 600,000 Frigidaire minifridges recalled due to fire hazard
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Thousands of Frigidaire-branded minifridges are being recalled nationwide after reports of electrical issues that pose a fire hazard, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
About 634,000 minifridges, imported by Curtis International, are affected by the recall. The CPSC says internal electrical components in the refrigerators can short-circuit, which may cause the plastic housing to ignite.
At least 26 incidents related to the defect have been reported, resulting in more than $700,000 in property damage.
The fridges were sold at Walmart stores, on Walmart’s website and on Amazon between 2020 and 2023.
Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled refrigerators immediately, dispose of them properly, and visit recalls.cpsc.gov for refund instructions.
More information on the recall can be found at cpsc.gov.
