988 crisis line offers 24/7 mental health support in Central Oregon

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- As the holiday season approaches, mental health leaders are emphasizing the availability of the 988 crisis line, which provides 24/7 support to individuals in Central Oregon and across the United States.

The 988 crisis line connects callers with trained professionals who offer compassionate, non-judgmental support at any time of the day. This service is part of a national effort to provide immediate assistance to those experiencing mental health crises.

"Our team consists of behavioral professionals and volunteers who have undergone extensive training," said Dwight Holton, Chief of Staff at Lines for Life. "We strive to help callers figure out what's next, build a safety plan, and move towards hope."

The 988 crisis line offers Spanish language services and a dedicated line for veterans, ensuring that diverse communities have access to the support they need. Additionally, the line is open to anyone concerned about a friend or family member, providing guidance and support for those worried about others.

While the 988 line is a national initiative, the team providing support is local, ensuring that callers receive help from professionals familiar with their community. This localized approach helps in finding appropriate resources and support systems within the caller's area.

The 988 crisis line stands as a vital resource for those facing mental health challenges, offering immediate and compassionate support. As Dwight Holton emphasized, reaching out for help is one of the most caring actions one can take, ensuring that no one has to face a difficult day alone.
