The first named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season is headed toward Bermuda after killing three people in Cuba and flooding roads in Florida. Alex reached tropical storm force after strengthening off Florida’s east coast early Sunday. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Alex has strengthened a bit, with maximum sustained winds reaching 70 mph by late Sunday. It was centered about 245 miles west of Bermuda. It is moving to the east-northeast at 28 mph and is expected to pass just north of Bermuda on Monday. Parts of South Florida experienced flooding from heavy rain over the weekend. Officials in Miami say many cars were stuck on flooded streets.
