Summit girls Ultimate Frisbee is headed to nationals in Pennsylvania
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – The Summit Girls Ultimate Frisbee team is heading back to Nationals after clinching victory at the Spaghetti Western Regional Tournament in California, marking their third consecutive trip to the national stage.
In an impressive show of dedication, the team even skipped their prom to compete, and win, at regionals. Now, they have their sights set on Nationals in Pennsylvania, set to begin on June 13th. But first, the team will compete at the State Championships in Corvallis this weekend.
The Summit Girls Ultimate team features athletes from schools all across the Bend area. Last year, they finished 6th at Nationals and are hoping to build on that success this season.
“It’s really fun to watch all the different experience levels and ages come together and make a team,” said Head Coach Emelie McKain. “That’s what’s exciting about this year, we’ve got such an awesome team because they push each other to become better. They respect each other on the field and they push each other to play their hardest. As a coach, it’s really fun to watch and be part of.”
Risa Moore, a Mountain View student, echoed that enthusiasm: “Every single practice, I’m having a great time. Just being able to perform and compete at such a high level, going to regionals in California and eventually Nationals in Pennsylvania, it’s so much fun. We get so much experience, and I just love it.”
To help fund their trip to Nationals, the team will be holding a fundraiser at Mountain Burger on June 9th.
