Summit hosts club track meet; Seattle eyeing return of SuperSonics

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ)-- As track season begins across Central Oregon, Summit High School is set to host one of its signature spring events this weekend.

The annual Mondo Heptathlon and Decathlon will take place at the school, continuing a long-standing tradition that coincides with the end of spring break. The meet has become a staple for multi-event athletes looking to test themselves early in the season.

Unlike most high school competitions, the event is not affiliated with the Oregon School Activities Association, allowing for a unique and inclusive field. Athletes from schools, clubs, and independent programs are all eligible to compete.

For more than 15 years, Summit head coach and Mondo club track head coach Dave Turnbull has organized the meet, helping it grow into a well-known event across the region.

This Friday and Saturday, more than 65 athletes from across the Pacific Northwest are expected to compete, showcasing their versatility and endurance in one of track and field’s most demanding formats.
