Reduced air quality and another heat wave for Central Oregonians

Bend, OR (KTVZ) -

Smoke from the 16,000 acre Emigrant Fire burning in Lane and Douglas County, just west of Crescent Lake, moved in late yesterday. Southern Deschutes county is reporting unhealthy and very unhealthy air quality this morning. Areas further north are moderate, which is acceptable.

Winds will blow from the south this morning but shift west this afternoon which will have all the smoke that got pushed north along the Cascades, transported down the eastern slopes. Air quality is expected to be unhealthy through portions of Deschutes County today.

Labor Day weekend is a weekend of last-minute summer fun. Whether you are camping, barbecuing, or just hanging in your backyard, remember to practice fire safety. Hot, dry, and locally breezy conditions will bring increased fire threat in the coming days.

Temperatures today will be in the mid 80s to low 90s. You can plan for these temperatures all weekend. We’ll see 90-degree temperatures continue through the first part of September.

Meteorological fall starts Monday, September 1st. Normal temperatures for this time of year are in the upper 70s and low 80s. We will be clocking in 10-15 degrees above that for the first week of September.

Have a happy Friday and a fun Labor Day holiday! Be safe.
