Four people in custody, including minors, after reported stabbing, assault at Sahalee Park in Madras

Jefferson County School District

MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) – Madras Police took four individuals, including minors, into custody after a reported stabbing and assault at Sahalee Park Friday afternoon that led to a “secure mode” call to lock the exterior doors at three schools for about a half-hour, authorities said.

Police “responded swiftly” to the incident around 3 p.m. at the park, and “as of now, all individuals involved are believed to be in custody,” police said in a news release shortly before 5 p.m.

“While the specifics of the incident are still under investigation, we want to reassure the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community,” the release continued.

The Madras Pioneer reported that initial reports from the scene said there had been a stabbing and assault, with the suspect fleeing the scene before the four were in custody.

Police and EMS arrived on the scene to find one victim, who was taken to the hospital with a reported stab wound and loss of consciousness, the Pioneer reported, adding that Sahalee Park was taped off during the investigation.

Just after 3 p.m., Jefferson County School District 509-J notified families by text that “due to police activity at Sahalee Park,” police directed Madras High School, Jefferson County Middle Schools and Bridges High School to go into secure mode.

“This means no one can enter or leave the building until further direction from police,” the notice said, “Students will be held safely inside.”

A Madras Police Facebook post at 3:30 p.m. said that the “law enforcement activity is over and schools are no longer in secure mode.”

St. Charles Madras was in lockout for about an hour, according to St. Charles Health System officials.

Jefferson County Fire & EMS and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office also responded, along with Oregon State Police, the newspaper said.

We will update when more information is released.
