Trinity Lutheran School plans expansion with new football and baseball programs

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Trinity Lutheran School in Bend, Ore., announced plans Thursday to expand its high school athletic offerings by adding football and baseball programs alongside a campaign to construct a new campus athletic facility.

Trinity student-athletes currently rely on public facilities and off-campus spaces for athletic practices and competitions. School officials say a dedicated campus venue will provide consistent training facilities, enable the school to host home events and serve as a gathering place for the Central Oregon community.

Kevin Boss, a former NFL tight end, will serve as head coach for the inaugural high school football team. Boss will prepare the team ahead of its scheduled kickoff in fall 2027.

Nic Othart, a former collegiate baseball player, has been selected to lead the new high school baseball team. The baseball program is scheduled to begin competition in spring 2028.

To accommodate the new sports alongside existing programs, Trinity has launched a campaign to build a dedicated athletic facility on its Bend campus. The proposed project features a multipurpose synthetic turf field for football and soccer, an eight-lane track and spectator bleachers.

The high school football team is scheduled to begin play in fall 2027, followed by the debut of the high school baseball program in spring 2028.
