Elk Lake day-use site shut for tree removal

KTVZ

A popular day-use site on Elk Lake temporarily is closed while hazardous trees are removed from the area.

The Beach Day-Use site at Elk Lake, on the southwest corner, temporarily is closed while a contractor removes hazardous trees from the area. The Forest Service regularly removes hazardous trees near recreation sites for public safety. The area is expected to be closed until mid-July.

“We appreciate visitor’s flexibility in finding other places to recreate while the trees are removed,” said Scott McBride, Bend-Ft. Rock Ranger District recreation specialist.

The public will be notified both on the ground and on the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests website (www.fs.usda.gov/centraloregon) when the work is completed and the area is reopened.
