OSP IDs Sherwood couple, baby killed in Hwy. 20 crash

Oregon State Police on Sunday identified a Sherwood couple and their 7-month-old daughter who were killed Saturday when their car crossed into the oncoming lane on rainy Highway 20 west of Santiam Pass and collided with an SUV towing a travel trailer.

Driver Tiffany Fefelov, 27, her husband Fred Fefelov, 34, and their 7-month-old daughter, Mila, suffered fatal injuries in the crash, which occurred shortly before 10 a.m. Saturday near milepost 78, in the area of Lost Lake and Hogg Rock.

Passers-by tried to help the family while medics rushed to the scene, three miles west of Santiam Pass and east of the junction with highways 22 and 126, in eastern Linn County.

OSP Lt. Steve Mitchell said Tiffany Fefelov was driving a 2010 Dodge Caliber eastbound when she lost control on the wet roadway, crossed into the westbound lane and collided with an oncoming 2001 Chevy Suburban towing a 32-foot travel trailer.

The SUV’s driver, Francis Hart, 78 and wife Sally Hart, 77, both of Salem, were unhurt in the crash, Mitchell said.

In a posting to KTVZ.COM, Tiffany Fefelov’s uncle, Allen James, said the couple leaves behind a 6-year-old son, Ewan, who had stayed behind with a friend.

“They were headed to a church function, a marriage retreat,” James wrote, asking that those interested in helping the family consider contributions at an online site, http://www.gofundme.com/fefelovfamily .

“This family was devoted to their family, their church and those they loved,” the family’s statement at the site reads.

“Everyone that knew Tiffany and Fred knew they shared their contagious laughter, loving nature and generosity for all those around them. They loved to celebrate all that life has blessed them with each and every day:”

“The family is beyond devastated and at a loss for words to express their extreme sadness of the loss of such a beautiful family.”

Seat belt usage by the people involved was still being determined as OSP troopers from Albany Area Command lead the investigation, assisted by troopers from the Bend Area Command.

OSP was assisted at the scene by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Black Butte Ranch police and fire departments, and ODOT.

The crash and investigation first blocked, then restricted travel through the area for several hours, causing traffic backups.
