C.O. police join in domestic violence sweep

A half-dozen Deschutes County law enforcement agencies took part in Wednesday’s national domestic violence warrant sweep and attempted to serve 122 outstanding warrants, resulting in five arrests, officials said Friday.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office partnered with Deschutes County Adult Parole and Probation and the Bend, Redmond, Sunriver and Black Butte Ranch police departments in the 12th annual National Family Violence Apprehension Detail, said sheriff’s Lt. Tim Leak.

The effort, which focuses on domestic violence warrants across the nation., involved nearly 250 agencies from 26 states, Leak said.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office coordinates the nationwide event “and has made this detail a success,” Leak said in a news release.

Nationwide, nearly 1,150 haw enforcement members participated, over 3m500 warrants were attempted and 919 arrests were made, the lieutenant said.

The six agencies in Deschutes County that participated attempted 122 warrants and made five arrests during a five-hour detail that focused on all of Deschutes County, including the incorporated cities, Leak said.

A total of 21 personnel from the six participating agencies went out in teams to execute the warrants, he explained.
