Fire destroys Terrebonne pump house, traced to heat lamp

A heat lamp left too close to combustibles apparently sparked a fire that destroyed a Terrebonne pump house, causing $35,000 damage early Wednesday morning, fire officials said.

No injuries were reported, according to officials who offered up a safety reminder in the cold snap hitting the region this week.

Redmond Fire & Rescue crews were called out around 3:30 a.m. to the reported fire at 12545 NW Wimp Way, said Fire Marshal Traci Cooper.

They arrived to find a pump house burning and another building threatened, Cooper said. Firefighters put out the blaze before it reached any other structures, she added.

A total of 20 firefighters, including six volunteers, responded to the blaze, according to Cooper. Crooked River Ranch and Sisters fire departments provided mutual-aid assistance.

Cooper reminded residents to use caution with alternate heat sources during the cold weather.

“The common rule of thumb is three feet of clear space for heat sources,” the fire marshal said in a news release.
