Three teens injured, driver charged in violent SE Bend crash

Three teens were injured Tuesday night when their reportedly speeding car crashed through two fences and flipped onto its top in a home’s yard on Knott Road in southeast Bend, police said. Officers said the crash involved alcohol and speed, and the driver, a 19-year-old Redmond resident, faces DUII, assault and other charges.

Police and fire medics responded around 8:15 p.m. to the reported crash on Knott Road near Brosterhous Road, said Bend police Capt. Matt Baldwin.

Officers said a 1993 Honda Civic driven by Raven Isreal Bright, 19, of Redmond, was heading east on Knott Road when she lost control and crashed through two fences.

After the car came to rest on its top, Bright and a 14-year-old Bend girl, one of two female passengers got out and ran to a nearby home for help. The second passenger, 16 and also of Bend, was pinned in the car, Baldwin said.

Bend Fire Department crews were able to remove the pinned teen “and determined she had significant, but not life-threatening injuries,” Baldwin said in a news release.

All three teens were taken to St. Charles Bend, where Bright and the 14-year-old were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The 16-year-old was flown by AirLink to a Portland hospital for further treatment, Baldwin said.

Witnesses said the car was traveling at a high rate of speed before the crash, and Baldwin said “it is believed alcohol and speed were both factors.”

Because she was undergoing medical treatment, Bright was arrested by citation and released at the hospital on charges of DUII, two counts each of third-degree assault and reckless endangering, and single counts of reckless driving and second-degree criminal mischief.

Online court records indicate Bright was arrested last September on methamphetamine possession and delivery charges and in March 2015 for violating the basic rule (speeding).
