Bend Parks and Rec seeks volunteer lacrosse coaches

KTVZ

Bend Park and Recreation District is seeking adult volunteers to coach youth lacrosse for the 2017 Youth Lacrosse League. Program participants are boys and girls in first through eighth grades.

Program enrollment is at an all-time record high with more than 670 youth participating. Several teams are in need of volunteer coaches.

The lacrosse season is April 3 to June 2 . Coaches volunteer approximately five hours per week for the nine-week season. Teams practice and play games twice weekly in the afternoons and evenings.

Lacrosse experience is preferred but not required. Training and on-going support is provided to volunteer coaches.

“Volunteers must enjoy working with youth and be able to create a positive, encouraging recreational environment for all players,” said Rich Ekman, sports program coordinator. “Volunteer coaches are an essential part of the program, providing support with program logistics, coaching and mentoring youth.”

All volunteer adult coaches must complete a volunteer application and criminal background check, as well as online concussion awareness training.

The online volunteer application and background check available at http://www.bendparksandrec.org/volunteers/volunteer-application/ .

Pre-season coach training is Saturday, March 18 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the District Office, 799 SW Columbia St.
