Klamath officials to rule if dogs that injured girl are to die

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) – Commissioners in Klamath County must decide the fates of four dogs that seriously injured a 10-year-old girl.
 
The Herald and News reports (https://is.gd/6Djmnm ) the bull mastiffs attacked the Klamath County girl last month after she went on her neighbor’s property. She suffered injuries to her head, arm and torso, and was initially hospitalized in critical condition.
 
Klamath County District Attorney Eve Costello announced Friday that the owner of the dogs would not face criminal charges.
 
Under Oregon law, dogs considered a threat to humans can be euthanized if they have demonstrated a behavior of unprovoked, serious attacks.
 
If the owner of the dogs had been charged, the criminal courts would make the decision. Without criminal charges, county commissioners must make the call.
