BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – The Family Access Network has received a $5,000 grant from Safeway Foundation to support FAN services to low-income children and their family members in Central Oregon.

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the remodeling of Safeway’s S. Highway 97 store in the Pinebrook Plaza, Safeway Foundation presented FAN with a $5,000 check to help those struggling with basic needs find assistance quickly through their FAN advocates.

This grant will support FAN services to low-income children and their family members in Central Oregon during the 2023-24 school year, allowing advocates to efficiently connect those experiencing food insecurity, homelessness, and poverty to crucial resources, including Federal Meals.

"Already this school year, our advocates have connected over 1,800 individuals to food resources," said Marianna Frisinger, FAN Foundation Board Chair. "Safeway Foundation is an exceptional partner in recognizing and supporting families in need, and we are grateful for this grant funding."

The goal of Safeway Albertsons Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors program is to ensure those who live in the communities served by Safeway and Albertsons have enough food to eat.

Unique to Central Oregon, FAN began in 1993 and currently employs 30 advocates at 65 sites in Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson counties. These advocates work tirelessly to help families break the cycle of poverty. The direct placement of FAN advocates within schools allows FAN to effectively reach and connect disadvantaged children and families to essential basic needs.
