Mount Bachelor Kennel Club Dog Show

The 2012 Mount Bachelor Kennel Club Dog Show was held at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds this weekend.

And organizers say it’s like the Westminster Dog Show, only slightly smaller.

The show has been running for over 20 years now.

About 1,000 dogs from all over the Northwest were competing in the three-day show. Teams came from Canada, California, Washington and right here in Oregon.

Dogs were tested in a variety of trials, including confirmation, obedience and agility.

While attendance was slightly down, it still was all about the ribbons and showing off the dogs.

“It’s enjoyable to see all of the other competitors here enjoying themselves, the dogs enjoying themselves — and it’s a community,” said Jonathan Sampson, MBKC show chairman.

New this year to the show was a Flyball tournament, which is a team relay competition.

Dogs go over jumps on a course, then hit a box which shoots a ball into the air, and the dog catches it. The dog then races back over the jumps — and then another dog goes.

It’s a timed event, with many completing in just under 25 seconds!
