Bend Library sale brings out bookworms
Bookworms united on Saturday, searching for the best deal on their favorite reads at the annual Bend Library book sale.
A crowd lined up outside the Deschutes Public Library administration building. Once the doors opened, it was a frenzy of shoppers searching for classic novels, non-fiction books, history collections, cd’s and lots more.
The customers could fill up a bag to the top and pay just $4 for all the books in it.
“The most rewarding thing is to see young people come in and want to buy books,” said chairman Rob Byrd. “Reading is the most important thing, I think, as far as education is concerned. And one of the things I think we’ve done is create a library system in Bend that is one of the best in the state.”
Each year an organization called “Friends of the Bend Library” puts on the event, and all proceeds support Bend libraries with their reading programs, furniture and equipment.
