Terrebonne woman recovering from serious crash

A Terrebonne woman critically injured in a crash last Monday has improved to fair condition and is due to be released to rehabilitation on Monday, a nursing supervisor said Sunday night.

Glennda Bickley, 65, had to be cut out of the wreckage of her gray 2000 Saturn SL, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said. She was flown by Life Flight helicopter to St. Charles Medical Center-Bend, where she initially was listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Sheriff’s deputies and Redmond fire medics responded around 8:15 a.m. last Monday to the single-vehicle crash on Lower Bridge Way west of Terrebonne, near milepost 8, said sheriff’s Sgt. Mark Eggert.

Bickley’s car had left the road and overturned, coming to rest on its top several feet south of the road, Eggert said. Bickley, traveling alone, was trapped in the overturned car, he added.

An initial investigation found that Bickley was driving west on Lower Bridge Way, following a Central Oregon Ready Mix concrete truck.

Eggert said she pulled into the eastbound lane in an attempt to pass the truck, but the truck driver, Manny Viescas, 52, of Prineville, began to make a left turn into a driveway on the south side of the road.

Viescas noticed the car trying to pass, so he swerved back into the westbound lane, Eggert said. But Bickley lost control of her car on the gravel shoulder and it traveled down the embankment, rolling several times and coming to rest on its top.

At this time, Eggert said it did not appear the two vehicles had any contact, adding that “it does not appear that alcohol is a factor.”

Eggert said Lower Bridge Road was closed for about 40 minutes so the helicopter could land and pick up Bickley for the flight to the hospital.
