Bend man sought on child porn charges caught in Mexico

KTVZ

A 34-year-old Bend man, arrested at a Mexico orphanage, has been returned to the U.S. and is awaiting extradition back to Bend to face trial on charges involving hundreds of child pornography photos found on his computer, police said Wednesday.

Jeremy Lee Shaw was arrested in Reynosa, Mexico on Tuesday, July 16 on the warrant listing 18 second-degree counts of encouraging child sexual abuse, said Lt. Chris Carney. He is being held at the Hildago County, Texas Jail as the extradition process is under way, Carney said, declining to be more specific about his return for safety reasons.

Police issued a warrant for his arrest in September 2011. He was arrested in a joint effort with the FBI and the U.S. Border Patrol.

News reports in Texas indicate a confidential informant told a Border Patrol agent that Shaw was in Reynosa.

Carney said police are unsure if the victims in the photos are local, but they are not family members, and all appeared under the age of 10. While there were hundreds of photos, 18 were considered egregious enough to warrant charges, he said.
