La Pine man charged in N. Klamath drive-by shooting

A La Pine man arrested late last month after a reported drive-by shooting in northern Klamath County and a standoff at a La Pine home has surrendered to face attempted murder charges, Oregon State Police said Thursday.

Gary Thomas Davis, 31, turned himself in to troopers at the OSP office in Bend on Wednesday on a Klamath County warrant for attempted murder. He was taken to the Klamath County Jail.

On Jan. 25, initial information from on-scene commanders indicated that Klamath County 911 dispatchers got a call just before 2 a.m. of shots being fired at or into a home on Collar Drive, just south of La Pine, said OSP Lt. Josh Brooks.

Troopers learned Davis had threatened a man at that location earlier, Brooks said. No injuries were reported.
Detectives conducting the investigation identified and interviewed witnesses and gathered new evidence that led to the arrest warrant being issued on the attempted muder charge, Brooks said.

Shortly before 7 a.m. on Jan., 25, troopers and Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies tracked Davis to a home in the 52000 block of Meadows Lane in La Pine, where he was staying with his girlfriend, identified as Tasha L. Murphey, 24, also of La Pine.

Troopers and deputies began negotiating with the pair, who barricaded themselves in the home, Brooks said. A “limited number” of OSP SWAT personnel were sent to the scene to assist, he added.

Shortly before 10 a.m., Davis was taken into custody without further incident on a probation violation charge, with other charges pending at the time, Brooks said. He was booked into the Deschutes County Jail in Bend, where he was held without bail. Murphey was not injured during the incident, Brooks said.
