(Update: Highway 97 reopened)

MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) – A two-vehicle, serious-injury crash closed U.S. Highway 97 south of Madras for about two hours Thursday night amid continued icy roads across the region due to snowfall earlier in the day, authorities said.

The crash was reported around 7 p.m. near milepost 101, about six miles south of Madras, ODOT’s TripCheck indicated.

Within a half-hour, ODOT was advising motorists of a complete closure and to “expect extended delays or use an alternate route." The agency indicated the highway had reopened shortly after 9 p.m.

Oregon State Police Captain Kyle Kennedy confirmed that a two-vehicle crash in icy road conditions had resulted in serious injuries.
