Much needed rain on the way Sunday

KTVZ

The region is officially “Abnormally Dry” according to the Climate Prediction Center so some light and soaking rain will be a welcomed sight to many.  Soaking rain is good this time of year as we get set for wildfire season, so any moisture is good moisture.

As for the forecast, we are looking at a change from the dry and mild to wet and cooler.

The rest of the weekend will be defined by an introduction of moisture to the Pacific Northwest.  Clouds will roll in tonight and Sunday, rain is likely. The rain will take some time crossing the mountains and I expect to see the showers in Central Oregon to begin by the middle of the afternoon or early evening.

The rain Sunday and overnight into Monday will be light and steady providing a good old fashioned soaking scenario.  The amounts will, of course, vary but we will see an average of around 0.25” to 0.50” across the tri-counties.  Sisters, along with Southern Deschutes County will see the totals closer to the half inch amounts.  The rain is expected to continue in the northern portion of the state Monday and into the Blue Mountains, but our region should see an end to the rain by about mid-day Monday.   Due to the rain and the cloud cover, Monday will see highs only in the middle to low 60s.

Once the rain clears, the area will be looking at several days of dry weather and a significant warm up by the end of next week. Some computer models are forecasting temperatures in the upper 80s Thursday and or Friday.  Well out in the future, but if you like a summer pattern, late next week will be right up your ally.
