John Carroll
Local Alert Chief Meteorologist
John became a member of the Local Alert Weather team as Chief Meteorologist in July of 2023 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him to Central Oregon. John is certified by the National Weather Service in Fire Weather Behavior and has had hands on experience with wildfires throughout the West. His expert knowledge and experience when dealing with wildfires will be beneficial to Central Oregonians.
John has over 30 years of experience and has seen and forecasted every type of weather phenomenon possible. His role in Central Oregon is to keep the community safe and informed and his passion for weather is seen each night in his forecasts. John's wealth of experience and expertise is what he taps into to provide our viewers the most accurate forecast possible.
Over the years John has developed deep ties to the communities where he has worked, and Central Oregon is no different. In the past John has been involved with several philanthropic organizations like the American Red Cross, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and the Salvation Army. He has also been part of several equine programs that help veterans and first responders who are dealing with PTSD.
School visits and the KTVZ Junior Forecaster program have connected him with countless students across the region. John has emceed a variety of non-profit fund raisers here in Central Oregon and donates his time whenever he can.
John is a certified Broadcast Meteorologist and member of the National Weather Association as well as a member of the American Meteorological Society, two organizations that connect him with a national network of meteorologist.
In his spare time, John enjoys writing and hiking. He has written three children’s books about the weather and continues to find inspiration for his writings as he hikes through the mountains here in Central Oregon. He is an ordained minister and has performed a number of wedding ceremonies in the past.
