Hot start to the weekend, possible record heat
The region will be under the influence of the dry and very warm ridge of high pressure over the Pacific Northwest. Look for the skies to be clear and the air to be dry. A combination like that will allow the mercury in the thermometer to rise well above normal once again.
Saturday will be a hot day as temperature readings inch up into the 90s most locations. Region-wide we are looking at a few middle to upper 90s in the eastern high desert and Washington.
The hot pattern will break a bit on Sunday as a dry and very weak cold front comes through. Tough to say “cold front” when temperatures will be in the 80s on Sunday, but it is cooler than the low 90s. The winds will be noticeable but still only on the breezy side.
The warmer than normal regime continues into the new work week as highs reach the middle 80s on Monday and we flirt with the low 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Some indications are that we will return to the 70s as we head into next weekend, but that is a long way off. Bottom line, this weekend will be the hottest of the year so far, and we all need to be ready to deal with the heat.
During the heat of summer, remember to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, wear a wide brimmed hat and some loose-fitting, light-colored clothes. Never leave pets or kids in your car.
