MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) – An “active shooter” drill at St. Charles Madras Wednesday morning sparked some worries among police-scanner listeners, but officials assured there was no real danger, only a valuable exercise for law enforcement and the hospital.

The scanner traffic related a man with a handgun "actively firing rounds" and that there were "numerous victims."

A St. Charles representative quickly assured it was a drill: "St. Charles is partnering with local law enforcement and first responders in Jefferson County on an emergency preparedness drill today, June 26."

Madras Police Chief Timothy Plummer said the multi-agency exercise involving hospital staff was going well and similar to one held recently at the Prineville hospital.
